Paradigm Hill (Mornington Peninsula) – I also try “The Oracle” Pinot Noir from this maker in the posted notes on the Pinot master-class. Riesling 2005 – A tight, closed nose of lime and minerals. Palate could do with some extra acid and focus. 86/100 Pinot Gris 2005 – Not quite sure about this. It’s reasonably […]

Oakridge (Yarra Valley) – Chardonnay 2003 – Very buttery and oaky along with hints of squeezed lemon on the nose. Medium length and lacks complexity on the palate. 86/100 Sauvignon Blanc 2004 – Distinctive, powerful nose of herbs, spice and some sweat. Palate is medium bodied and reasonably crisp. 85/100 Pinot Gris 2005 – Very […]

Mitchelton Wines (Goulburn Valley) – Mitchelton’s “Airstrip” is constantly a favourite white wine to try for me, it’s something a bit different and I like that. Their budget label is the “Preece” brand with wines in this range selling for about $10-$12. I also try the Mitchelton Heathcote Shiraz during the master-class that I will […]

Mount Langi Ghiran (Grampians) – One of my favourite Victorian wineries from one of my favourite areas in Victoria for wine. Mount Langi had a bit of a disastrous year last year with their flagship 2002 Langi Shiraz being voluntarily withdrawn from market after a number of critics noticed that it was developing a bacterial […]

Morris Wines (Rutherglen) – Another Victorian winery that is very well known for its excellent fortified wines, but also does a range of regular table wines. Chardonnay 2004 – An easy to drink, fresh, fully ripe wine. Is clearly aiming for the early drinking style but I would prefer if it had something a bit […]

Moorooduc Estate (Mornington Peninsula) – A bit of a revelation for me at last years show as I had not heard of them before and they were making some very smart Pinot and Chardonnay. “The Moorooduc” Pinot Noir 2004 – The most complexity and depth of the Moorooduc Pinots tried. Really tight and closed at […]

Lethbridge Wines (Geelong) – A winery that I hadn’t tried wines from prior to this event. The vineyards are maintained with a strong bio-dynamic and organic influence. The Lethbridge Pinot Noir was also included in my Pinor master class review, and although it didn’t show well on that occasion, others have said that their sample […]

Killara Park Estate (Yarra Valley) – Sauvignon Blanc 2005 – Freshly cut grass on the nose. Palate is medium intensity but thins out towards the finish. 85/100 Chardonnay 2004 – Nose was completely mute, couldn’t get anything from it. Rich, toasty and broad on the palate. 83/100

Innocent Bystander (Yarra Valley) – An offshoot of the Giant Steps winery, with wines aimed at a lower price point and being easier to drink in their youth. Chardonnay 2005 – Fresh, fruity and made for immediate consumption. No major problems except for a lack of anything interesting. 85/100

Heathcote Winery (Heathcote) – There will also be a review of the “Curagee” Shiraz from this producer in the Heathcote master class roundup. “Mail Coach” Viognier 2004 – Some stone fruit and spices on the nose, but sadly overly alcoholic on both the nose and palate. 86/100
